You’re at one with nature and happy to be taking on a proper challenge that has elements of the unknown. 8 hours on feet per day over 2-3 days or 3-5 hours on feet over 4 days.
THE ADVENTURE
Hike, Cycle & Kayak through Knuckles mountain range. The dense forest of the knuckles mountain range is surrounded by 34 mystical mountains that range from 900 to 2,000 metres. You will explore some of the country's most beautiful, lesser trodden trails that give you a different side to Sri Lanka. Cascading waterfalls in every clearing, quaint villages hidden amid the mountains, an abundance of tiered rice fields as well as a varied and colourful wildlife. The range covers 234-square-kilometre and heroes the best of what Sri Lanka has to offer.
The purpose element of the trip is focused on the Knuckles forest, important to Sri Lanka in many respects. It harbours rich floral and faunal diversity; it is occupied by several endangered species and it is an important watershed and catchment area for more than 500 streams. The Knuckles is now designated as a UNESCO Heritage Site and is a protected reserve. The forest department has been mainly focussing on preventing further degradation to the forests. However massive reforestation projects are needed as well to restore and enhance its watershed services, micro-climate regulation and carbon sequestration. On our trip, in a small way, we will try to contribute to the forest departments efforts.
This has everything...kayak, mountain bike, hike, replanting, local communities, wildlife and sleeping under the stars.
Suport diverse wild habitats, learn about paddy-field cultivation and the traditional practice of slash and burn cultivation which provides a livelihood and subsistence. Alongside this you will support reforestation projects which are needed in order to restore and enhance Knuckles' watershed services, micro-climate regulation and carbon sequestration.
Learn from a local that really understands the area. A native of Kandy, who spent most of his childhood meandering through the countryside discovering new trails and hidden waterfalls and knows where to find the best baby jackfruit curry up in the hills.

You will find a huge variety of dishes across Sri Lanka. Rice and curry - often fiery hot but usually quite mild in hotel restaurants - are the staple, but the term 'curry' conceals an enormous variety of subtle flavours. Coriander, chilies, mustard, cumin, pepper, cinnamon and garlic are just some of the common ingredients. Mallung, a dish prepared with grated coconut, shredded leaves, red onions and lime, is an alternative to try. Hoppers, a snack unique to Sri Lanka, are similar to a pancake served with egg or honey and yogurt. The country has a wide variety of tropical fruit throughout the year. Pineapples, papayas and bananas are particularly good. On this trip we will try and keep the food as authentic as possible. There will be some western options during breakfast.
